Why Heavy-Spec EV Installation Matters

An EV Charger Is the Single Largest Continuous Load in Your Home

Unlike an oven or dryer that cycles on and off, a Level 2 EV charger pulls 32 to 48 amps continuously for 6 to 10 hours straight. Cutting corners with undersized wire, cheap $12 dryer outlets, or uncalibrated breaker connections causes melted receptacles and tripped main panels.

  • 1. Formal NEC Article 220 Panel Load Calculation Before We Wire We calculate your home's true peak electrical demand so your new EV charger, central A/C, and kitchen appliances run together safely.
  • 2. Compatible With Every Electric Vehicle & Charger Brand We install Tesla Wall Connectors (Universal & NACS), ChargePoint Home Flex, Rivian Wall Chargers, Ford Charge Station Pro, Emporia, Wallbox, and Porsche/BMW/Mercedes units.
  • 3. Industrial-Grade Copper Conductors & Clean EMT Conduit Runs Whether concealed inside finished walls or routed in precision-bent metallic or weatherproof exterior conduit, our installations look like they came with the home.
  • 4. EV-Rated Hubbell/Bryant NEMA 14-50 Receptacles (Never Cheap Dryer Outlets) If you prefer a plug-in charger, we exclusively install heavy-duty industrial EV-rated receptacles and required GFCI breakers that won't overheat under continuous load.
  • 5. Smart Dynamic Load Management for 100-Amp Panels Have a 100A panel and want to avoid a full service upgrade? We install UL-listed EV energy management controllers that automatically balance charging with your home's load.

OPTION 01 • FASTEST & SAFEST

Hardwired Level 2 Smart Charger (48A / 60A Breaker)

Our most popular installation. Hardwiring a Tesla Wall Connector, ChargePoint, Rivian, or Emporia unit onto a dedicated 60-amp 240V circuit unlocks full 48A charging output (up to 44 miles of range added per hour), eliminates plug-in connection points, and works indoors or outdoors in any weather.

OPTION 02 • PLUG-IN FLEXIBILITY

Heavy-Duty 240V NEMA 14-50 EV Outlet (50A Breaker)

Ideal for mobile connector cords and plug-in Level 2 chargers. We install a dedicated 50-amp circuit with a commercial/industrial EV-rated NEMA 14-50 receptacle, code-mandated GFCI breaker protection, and a deep weatherproof or flush-mount enclosure—delivering 30 to 35 miles of range per hour.

EV Owner Questions Answered

EV Charger Installation Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to buy the EV charger myself before you install it?

Either works! Most homeowners purchase their preferred Level 2 charger (such as a Tesla Universal Wall Connector, ChargePoint Home Flex, Rivian, or Emporia) and we supply all circuit breakers, copper wire, conduit, fittings, and mounting hardware. If you haven't bought one yet, Homer will recommend the exact model that fits your car and panel capacity.

Is it better to hardwire my EV charger or install a 240V NEMA 14-50 outlet?

For permanent home installations, hardwiring is almost always superior: it allows higher charging speeds (up to 48A on a 60A circuit vs. 32A–40A on a 50A plug), eliminates the cost of an industrial receptacle and GFCI breaker, and removes plug blades that can loosen over years of thermal cycling.

Can you install a Level 2 EV charger if my home only has a 100-amp electrical panel?

Yes. During our free consultation, we perform a formal NEC load calculation. Depending on your existing appliances, we can often configure a 30A–40A Level 2 circuit, install a UL-listed smart load-management device that pauses charging only during rare peak household demand, or upgrade you to a 200-amp solar-ready main panel.

Can my EV charger be installed outside on my driveway wall or side yard?

Yes. Modern Level 2 chargers (NEMA 3R / NEMA 4 rated) are built for outdoor California weather. We route weatherproof conduit with watertight fittings so you can safely charge in your driveway year-round.
